Burst
by Rachel Bublitz

Directed by Elizabeth Price
Southeastern Premiere
A sharp, dark comedy making its southeastern U.S. premiere, Burst unfolds over one late night in the CEO's office at Tactix — a tech company on a mission to eliminate plastic from the earth. When a tenacious journalist and a wavering CTO arrive uninvited and threaten to expose the gap between the company's promises and its reality, the play puts a spotlight on corporate responsibility, the seduction of big ideas, and the price of ambition.

The Lobby Experience

In collaboration with Wild Bloom Society
We're always looking for ways to enhance the experience of a New City Players production beyond the stage. At Burst, the conversation starts before you take your seat — and continues long after the curtain comes down. Here's what you can expect in the lobby:

Poems from the Public Square
The lobby during Burst will be transformed into a space for poetry, participation, and communal reflection. Featuring original works by local poets inspired by the production, the exhibition invites audiences to encounter poetry before and after the performance.

The Trash in My Pocket
A pre-show community poetry call inviting the public to submit short poems and reflections on the things we carry for so long we stop noticing they’re there. Selected submissions will become part of the exhibition.

The Drawer of Recycled Truths
An interactive lobby activation inviting audiences to respond anonymously to prompts exploring ideas like success, belonging, purpose, and impact. Audience responses will accumulate and become part of the evolving Public Square.

The Public Square Wall
A communal reflection wall where audiences can share favorite lines, thoughts, and responses inspired by the play and poetry.
